The UC Davis Specialty Clinic for Hair disorders, directed by Dr. Oma Agbai, provides comprehensive dermatologic care for hair disorders of patients of all skin types.

Hair loss, or alopecia, can be emotionally devastating to both men and women alike and have a dramatic effect on a patient’s self-confidence and self-esteem. Since the appearance of hair has social and psychological importance, patients with hair loss can suffer greatly.

In order to properly treat hair loss, accurate diagnosis of the specific hair disorder is required. This is achieved with a comprehensive clinical assessment to evaluate for underlying medical problems that can contribute to hair loss. Additional work up may include a detailed personal and family history, nutritional assessment, punch biopsy of the scalp, and blood tests. Our goal is to address the underlying cause of hair loss in order to develop the most effective personalized treatment plan for each patient.

The specialists in the UC Davis Specialty Clinic for Hair Disorders treat a variety of hair disorders including but not limited to the following:

  • Alopecia areata
  • Central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA)
  • Traction alopecia
  • Androgenetic (age and hormone-related) alopecia
