Drs. Sneeden and Heyer © 2010 UC RegentsThe Molecular Oncology Program has the scientific goal of advancing the understanding of the molecular and chemical basis of cancer transformation and progression, with integrated thematic emphases on (1) kinase signaling and receptor cross-talk and (2) DNA damage recognition/repair and cell cycle checkpoints.

The program seeks to promote rapid translation of basic discoveries of cancer mechanisms into the development of potential prognostic markers and therapeutic strategies.

Also studied are specific processes related to cancer cells, including the chemical and biochemical events involved in DNA damage and response, drug and radiation resistance and response, and hormone resistance and response.  The program offers expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry to Cancer Center investigators and fosters interactions with other scientific programs to develop disease-oriented translational research.
