Become a volunteer at the Cancer Center
When you become a volunteer, you join a team of volunteers who serve as the ambassadors of the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our volunteers are often the first to greet and introduce visitors to the Cancer Center and are an essential part of our team, helping us provide patients with the best experience possible.
Our volunteer team is made up of caring people, men and women from diverse backgrounds, high school and college students, retirees, transitioning adults and working professionals.
Volunteers at our welcome desk play an important role greeting patients and visitors and assisting them with wayfinding for our adult and pediatric clinics, infusion centers and radiation oncology services.
Volunteers provide assistance in a number of administrative activities. General office skills are welcome, including computer skills, phones and database input. Volunteers may also assist with coordination of special events for the cancer center.
Child Life Program
Volunteers work with UC Davis Children’s Hospital’s child life specialists, assisting with play activities and supervising children. Other duties may include maintaining the play and common areas, cleaning toys, performing administrative tasks and preparing for and staffing special events.
“Volunteering at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center is an opportunity to meet and greet a diverse population of folks looking for strength, directions, hope and a smile! I look forward to giving it my best!” — Judith Wright
Cancer Resource Center
Volunteers welcome visitors to the Cancer Resource Center and assist them with locating information. They may also help with workshops, identification and restocking of resource materials and other projects of special interest.
Patient Peer Navigator Program
The UC Davis Cancer Peer Navigator Program relies on cancer survivors who want to become volunteer cancer coaches and mentors for newly diagnosed patients. Cancer Peer Navigators assist cancer patients through the diagnosis and treatment process and help them understand and cope with treatment options.
