Pledges

Donors make pledges by promising a gift and making payments over time. This method of giving may enable you to give more generously than what might be possible through a single contribution. These payments can be made in the form of cash, securities, credit card payments or other types of assets. You can pay the pledged gift over a period of up to five years, in annual, semiannual or quarterly installments, with payments beginning at your convenience. You may contact Sallie-Grace Tate, assistant dean for development, at (916) 734-2783 or at salliegrace.tate@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu to discuss your pledge.

Planned giving

Planned gifts are donation arrangements that have specific tax advantages and can include lifetime income for the donor or their designate. Planned gifts may allow you to make a larger philanthropic impact than you may have thought possible. There are many easy giving options to choose from. These strategies may enhance your personal and financial well-being and make an impact on future generations.

What are the benefits of planned giving?

  • Reduce your income taxes
  • Avoid capital-gains tax
  • Increase your discretionary income
  • Retain payments for life
  • Achieve no-cost, worry-free asset management

The importance of planned gifts to the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing students, faculty and programs cannot be overstated. These gifts are an investment in the transformation of health care through nursing education, research and leadership. Click here to learn more about planned giving at UC Davis Health System.

Types of gift funds

There are two types of funds that you can establish with your gift—an endowed fund or a current-use fund.

Endowed funds
An endowment is a fund that is invested and maintained in perpetuity. Each year, investment income is used to support the purpose specified by the donor. These funds may be named, providing a lasting tribute to an individual, family or group and creating a highly visible link between the honoree and the university. Endowments provide a stable source of income, helping sustain the School of Nursing well into the future.

Current-use funds
Current-use funds are expended over a short period of time, making an immediate impact on the purpose specified by the donor. Depending on their use, these gifts may also create a long-term legacy—for example, by supporting the construction of a new building.
