Prerequisite Courses
The following courses must be taken at the college level and completed with a grade of C or higher.
(Any courses completed by means of examination (i.e., CLEP) or experiential learning must be repeated.)
- English Composition
any college composition course which meets the baccalaureate requirement (excluding ESL courses) - General Psychology
two semester units or three quarter units - Microbiology or Bacteriology (including lab)
three semester units or five quarter units - Algebra
calculus, statistics or any level of algebra will meet the math requirement with the exception of pre-algebra - Introduction to Sociology or Cultural Anthropology
two semester units or three quarter units - General Chemistry or Introduction to Chemistry (including lab)
equivalent to three semester units or five quarter units (may be taken at high school level) - Human Anatomy (including lab)
three semester units or five quarter units - Human Physiology (including lab)
three semester units or five quarter units
In order to meet the program's educational requirements, all prerequisite courses, including the minimum 60 semester/90 quarter units, must be taken at a community college or university that is accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: MSA-CHE, NASC-CCU, NCA, NEASC-CIHE, NEASC-CTCI, NWCCU, SACS-CC, WASC-Jr. or WASC-Sr.
Courses in progress – Applicants are allowed to apply with a maximum of two prerequisite courses “in progress” after the application deadline and must be completed by the end of the fall session. The final date for completing in-progress courses in the fall is 12/31.
Note: A combined anatomy-physiology course (including lab) must be a one-year course (totaling six semester or 10 quarter units), with the semester/quarters taken in a series at the same college. Completion of anatomy and physiology is highly recommended within the past 5 years. In addition, taking upper division biology & general science courses beyond the minimum requirements will better perpare you for our program. If course credits differ from those listed above, the applicant must submit a course outline for approval prior to applying.
