Most of the department's basic science research is housed at the Center for Neuroscience on the UC Davis campus and collaborated with other departments. All neurology department faculty members are involved in teaching medical students and residents, or physicians-in-training.
The department has been recognized for its quality in patient care. In 2001, the Huntington's Disease Society of America recognized UC Davis for its expertise in clinical care for Huntington's disease patients and named it a center of excellence. The UC Davis Medical Center Sleep Disorders Laboratory is fully accredited by the American Sleep Disorders Association. Most patient care and clinical services are offered at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Some services are also available at the Martinez and Mather Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals.
