Pediatric anesthesia
Pediatric anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is comprised of four full-time and two part-time anesthesiologists. Pediatric anesthesiology is a component of the multidisciplinary UC Davis Children's Hospital located at the UC Davis Medical Center. The pediatric anesthesiology faculty members are all experienced child specialists with expertise in the perioperative care of children scheduled for surgery and other procedures. They provide the latest perioperative care to pediatric patients suffering from a wide range of medical conditions including congenital and acquired heart disease, burns, birth defects, trauma, and spinal and orthopaedic conditions. UC Davis Children's Hospital is the region's only level one trauma center with a separate and fully accredited pediatric emergency room. Personnel, including pediatric anesthesiologists, are available to provide 24-hour emergency pediatric care and services. UC Davis Children's Hospital has a total of 96 beds including 38 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds and 16 Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) beds.
Routine surgical cases are scheduled in the newly opened UC Davis Children's Hospital Surgery Center located on the first floor. Emergent and trauma cases are scheduled in the second floor Main Operating Room. Pediatric anesthesiology also supports procedural sedation services in the pediatric cardiology labs, interventional radiology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Suite, Cancer Center, and other hospital sites.
Additionally, pediatric anesthesiology provides preoperative consultative and counseling services including pain management services for children and their parents to prepare and ease the passage of their child through surgery and recovery.
