Lubarsky speaking on AI, health equity in California

(SACRAMENTO)

David Lubarsky, CEO of UC Davis Health and vice chancellor of human health sciences, will speak at an April 25 statewide panel on artificial intelligence and health equity in California.

The California Health Care Foundation in Sacramento will host the conversation “AI and Health Care: Good or Bad for Health Equity in California?” Click here to attend this free event virtually (in-person attendance has a waitlist).

In addition to Lubarsky, other panelists include Dr. Susan Ehrlich, CEO of the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and Dr. Carolina Reyes, UC Davis Health associate clinical professor in maternal-fetal medicine.

Dr. Mark Ghaly, Secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency, will give a keynote address before the panel discussion. The organizers say the topic is the role of AI in health care, including the following issues:

  • Overview of AI in health care and applications for improving patient care.
  • Challenges and opportunities around applications of AI in health care, including algorithmic bias and access to AI in historically marginalized communities.
  • Policy and regulatory considerations that center health equity as AI becomes more widely used in health care.

The California Health Care Foundation noted, “As AI grows, leaders must consider governance, equity, and policy implications to ensure fair access and quality care. What are the governance, racial and socioeconomic equity, and policy considerations leaders should address in their decision-making? What case studies and best practices can policymakers and state leaders draw upon to ensure the health and safety of Californians?”
