Our faculty members serve as leaders and collaborators in multi-disciplinary research programs throughout the UC Davis Health System and in many other schools and colleges of our campus. The breadth of research experience and inquiry within the department address major focus areas in biomedical science today, and include cross-cutting themes that align with the forces of change in medicine, such as new technologies in imaging, informatics, and proteomics, the growing emphasis on disease risk and prevention including the role of nutrition, as well as investigations in the challenges related to health care delivery. We are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between clinical practice and research programs by enabling the translational flow of information and knowledge from animal models to human clinical trials. A primary goal of our research section is to enable translational links between clinical and research areas of expertise both within the department and beyond to centers of excellence on the UC Davis Medical Center and UC Davis campuses. Coupled with this goal is the expectation that there will be a bi-directional flow of knowledge between human clinical practice and animal models that leads to better diagnosis and treatment, as well as prevention. In addition, we support our community of scientists by offering high quality services through our core research laboratories.
