Fellowship in Otolaryngology
Fellowships in three specialized areas of otolaryngology are offered in the Department of Otolyarngology:.
- Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery
- Head and neck oncologic (cancer) surgery
- Laryngology
Dr. Jonathan Sykes' Facial Plastic Plastic Surgery Program takes one fellow per year and involves a one-year experience . The training encompasses all branches of this discipline including all cosmetic surgery of the face and neck (rhinoplasty, facelift, browlift,etc) cleft and craniofacial anomalies, orthognathic surgery, facial trauma, facial blemishes and reconstruction after cancer surgery.
Dr. Paul Donald's Head and Neck Oncology Fellowship includes one or two years of training in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors. The management of tumors of the neck, thyroid and parathyroid glands, the salivary glands, the neck, larynx (voice box), nose, sinuses, ear, pharynx (throat), scalp, orbit and eyelids are taught. An emphasis is paced on laser resection of malignancies, skull base surgery and microvascular reconstruction. The purpose of the fellowship is to train young otolaryngologists who have completed their regular training in the specialty to become super-specialists and will proceed onto a career in academic head and neck surgery.
Dr. Peter Belafsky's Laryngology Fellowship provides specialized training in diseases of the larynx, pharynx and esophagus with a focus on the rehabilitation of speech and swallowing.
