Residency Position Timeline

November 1, 2008 - Applicant's files should be complete by this date.

  1. Application through ERAS 
  2. Personal statement/curriculum vitae
  3. Three current letters of recommendation
  4. Medical school transcript
  5. Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  6. Copy of test scores (USMLE, NBE, FLEX, etc)
  7. Copy of certificate of registration for the Neurological Surgery Matching Program
  8. November 1 - Dean's letter is released

Additional requirements for foreign medical graduates:

  1. Copy of valid ECFMG Certificate
  2. Satisfactory completion of Federal Licensing Examination (SPEX)
  3. Current "Authorization to Begin Postgraduate Training" from the Medical Board of California

All completed files will be reviewed by the faculty of the Department of Neurological Surgery.Incomplete Files Will Not Be Reviewed.  We encourage you to contact the department at any time to review the status of your file.  Interviews are by invitation only.  Due to the large volume of applicants to our program, we will only notify those applicants who will be invited for an interview. 

January 2009

At least one but not more than two interview dates will be scheduled sometime during the month of January. For the 2009 match we will only conduct interviews on Saturday, January 17.  Letters inviting applicants an interview will be sent.

February 2009

Formal ranking will be completed and forwarded to the National Resident Match Program (NRMP)

March 2009

Neurological Surgery Matching occurs during the third week of March.
