*Student Loan Interest Rates Forecasted to Rise July 1: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has unveiled its updated Paying for College tool, using its best guess of what interest rates will be on July 1. Interest rates on most federal student loans are based on the value of the Treasury Department's ten-year note. In May there will be a Treasury bond auction, and that rate will set federal student loan interest rates. While the CFPB offers estimates only, they project that the rates could rise, from 5.41 percent to 6.64 percent on unsubsidized Direct Loans for graduate/professional students, and from 6.41 percent to 7.64 percent for Graduate PLUS Direct Loans.
