The Ernest E. Tschannen Eye Institute Building received top medical building awards from the Construction Managers Association of America (CMAA) and the Sacramento Business Journal. The 78,500-square-foot building has 64 exam rooms, 24 imaging rooms, and houses the Center of Ocular Regenerative Therapies, which researches gene and transplant therapies for inherited retinal diseases.
Ophthalmologists at UC Davis Health used an experimental gene therapy to treat a patient with wet age-related macular degeneration, or wet AMD. The treatment was part of a randomized, partially masked, controlled, phase 3 clinical study evaluating the efficacy and safety of an experimental therapy, ABBV-RGX-314, for wet AMD. UC Davis Health is one of 93 sites in the U.S. participating in the clinical trial.
