But when they do occur, it's comforting to know that there is a place where children throughout Northern California can receive state-of-the-art, world-class emergency medical care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That place is the Pediatric Emergency Department in the Michael W. Chapman Emergency and Trauma Center. A Caring, Compassionate Environment

Children and their families await treatment in a child-friendly and family-focused pediatric waiting room, separate from the adult emergency department waiting area. The pediatric waiting room is staffed by personnel trained to support children who are sick and help them understand what to expect while being cared for in the emergency department.

The sophisticated and spacious patient rooms feature technologies that permit health care providers to conduct state-of-the-art medical tests, such as ultrasound, at the child's bedside. the electronic medical record allows for expedited transmission and receipt of patient-care information, including electronic ordering, documentation, laboratory results and radiological information. This capability allows children to be treated quickly and minimizes the need to transport them to other parts of the hospital for evaluation.
