• Affiliate Scholars

UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center Affiliate Scholar Membership is open to all UC Davis and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory investigators below faculty level (undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and research staff) and high school/middle school students who have a focused interest in cancer research and a commitment to contribute to the Cancer Center.

The Cancer Center’s mission is to generate discoveries to increase understanding of the biology of cancer and to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer for populations in its diverse catchment area and beyond. Individuals from underserved and marginalized communities, with disabilities, or who self-identify as members of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to join.

Criteria

Eligibility for Affiliate Scholar requires meeting one of these requirements:

Has an appointment or is enrolled with UC Davis or Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory below faculty level, including postdoctoral scholars, staff research associates, graduate students, and undergraduates who have a mentor.

Exceptions to these policies are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Is a high school or middle school student who has demonstrated commitment to participate in Cancer Center activities, including but not limited to completion of a Cancer Center workshop/program, continued cancer research activities, persistent efforts of community outreach, and/or fundraising for cancer research.

Support the Cancer Center's mission to advance cancer research and improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for diverse populations worldwide.

Attend Cancer Center events: Grand Rounds, Spotlight on Early Career Investigators, Mini-Symposium, Research Symposium.

Provide the necessary information for the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) renewal and annual progress reports as requested.

share-resources

Acknowledge the use of Cancer Center facilities, Shared Resources, space, or assistance from the CCSG.

Share your career and educational achievements with the Office of Education, Training, and Career Development.

Provide Cancer Center Administration with a current resume or CV, As needed, 

  • Eligibility for Cancer Center Scholar Travel Award.
  • Priority selection for presentations at Spotlight on Early Career Investigators.
  • Priority selection for sponsored workshop participation.
  • Access to Scholars' listserv for workshop, funding, and job opportunities.
  • Ability to include UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center affiliation on resume and CV.
  • Eligibility to apply for Cancer Center training scholarships.

Membership Review and Renewal Process

  • Affiliate Scholar Membership is reviewed every two years based on eligibility criteria.
  • During the National Cancer Institute designation renewal preparation, membership status is reviewed for reappointment.
  • Membership may be changed or dismissed based on the review.
  • Relocating Affiliate Scholars' membership ends at relocation, but a one-year grace period allows review of UC Davis research publications.
