Dear Potential Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in our APA Accredited Psychology Internship Program and/or APPIC member Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Both of our psychology programs provide specialized training in clinical child and adolescent psychology that is committed to serving the Sacramento community in Northern California. Our program materials are available, which provide an overview of our training program’s supervised professional experience, training didactics, and our values and goals.

UC Davis Health has a commitment to the training and education of highly qualified behavioral health professionals in psychology and psychiatry. Our team of psychologists promote professional growth and development and prepare interns for independent practice as health service psychologists with specialized experience with diverse and/or underserved child and family populations. We firmly believe that is our responsibility to train interns and fellows who will exercise strong clinical judgment and contribute both to the welfare of society and to the profession. Our clinical child training program is committed to the lifelong learning process and aims to create an environment that supports trainees to develop across different competency areas by recognizing their strengths and areas for growth. We also respect each trainee’s unique cultural identity that the trainee brings to the team, clinic, and community. The clinical child psychology training programs provide advanced and specialized training in the areas of direct evidence-based, developmentally appropriate, and culturally-sensitive clinical service, professional development, ethical decision-making, and scholarly inquiry. We support our interns and fellows in reflecting on their self-care practices in order to increase their longevity and effective engagement in the field. Successful interns and fellows are actively open to the learning process, responsible, adaptable, flexible, culturally curious, and collaborative. Over the years, interns and fellows who have graduated from our program have been highly competitive and gone on to secure employment as postdoctoral fellows, staff psychologists, academic faculty members, and private practitioners.

We are pleased to share that our inaugural internship training year was first accredited, on-contingency status, by the American Psychological Association (APA) in 2019, and was successfully fully accredited in 2021. Our current accreditation cycle runs through 2024. For further information, contact APA Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation, 750 First Street, N.E., Washington, DC 20002-4242; (202) 336-5979.  Or, visit APA’s Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation website.  For other APA matters, call (800) 374-3431 or visit APA’s main website. Our post-doctoral fellowship program is not APA-accredited, but has been an active APPIC member for over 20 years.

I hope that you find the provided information useful in helping you decide if our site would match your training needs and professional goals. Please contact our program or our administrative training staff via email if you have any questions about our program.
