Quality - Beyond the Benchmark

Quality at the Cancer Care Network is multi-disciplinary and goes beyond collecting measurements of daily performance.  The Cancer Care Network supports affiliate sites in developing quality goals that surpass benchmarks and make a difference for patients, family members and staff.

In 2016, the network began to track key metrics across all sites on a quality improvement dashboard. Measures include: smoking cessation, clinical trials accrual, and nursing education.

Oncology Quality Metrics

Quality is an ever-increasing component of health care delivery today as healthcare shifts from fee-for-service to value-based reimbursement.  The CCN and UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center staff can provide guidance and education on oncology guidelines, standards and metrics.  Such examples include:

  • ACoS CoC standards
  • Cancer prevention/screening activities
  • Low dose CT scans for lung cancer screening
  • National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines: diagnosis, treatment, and supportive
  • ONS patient outcome and chemotherapy/biotherapy administration standards
  • Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI)
    • Quality audits (based on affiliation model)
    • Smoking cessation initiatives
