Q&A: Comprehensive Care for Children with Spinal Cord Dysfunction
UC Davis Health physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist Maya Evans, M.D., shares important health information for clinicians caring for children with spinal cord injuries and those with spinal cord dysfunction like spina bifida. Evans is an associate clinical professor at UC Davis Health and the medical director of the spina bifida program at Shriners Children’s Northern California. She co-wrote a paper on spinal cord injuries with pediatric rehabilitation specialist Loren Davidson, M.D.

UC Davis Health Opens Sacramento’s First Rehab Hospital
UC Davis Rehabilitation Hospital is Sacramento County’s first freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Developed in collaboration with Lifepoint Rehabilitation, the 58,000-square-foot facility is equipped with leading-edge amenities and 52-beds, including a 12-bed brain injury unit and 3,100-square-foot physical therapy gym.

First in California to Offer Life-Changing Therapy for DMD
A 5-year-old boy diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the first in California and fourth in the nation to receive groundbreaking gene therapy outside of clinical trials. The treatment, years in the making, brings hope to as many as 12,000 people in the U.S. who live with DMD.
