Why SGLT2 Inhibitors Should be Stopped Before Surgery

Patients most at risk of developing euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis (eDKA) with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are those who had a recent surgery, acute medical illness or relative insulin deficiency. To highlight the need for health care professionals to be more vigilant to this complication, UC Davis Health endocrinology team members wrote a case study, published by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Patient Safety Network (PSNet).

A new study by UC Davis Health endocrinology researchers shows a high prevalence of thyroid cancer among transgender female veterans. It’s the first evidence of such a disparity in the transgender female population in the United States. The findings were presented at the American Thyroid Association Annual Meeting.
