Pacemakers for Children

UC Davis Health is home to the first procedure to implant a leadless, retrievable pacemaker in a child. Our specialists implant the device through a vein in your child's neck, where it travels to their heart. With no wires (leads), this pacemaker can be easily removable for battery replacement. This new device helps regulate heart rate for children with rare congenital heart conditions.

"Child Injury," CDC, https://www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/childinjury/index.html

Why Children’s Health Matters

Your child’s early health — starting before birth — provides a foundation for well-being throughout their life. Research shows that negative experiences as a child can disrupt health into adulthood.

Supporting your child’s physical and mental health and their educational, social and emotional development requires hard work and commitment. But seeing your children grow up strong and healthy is worth the effort.

  • At least 4 in 10 school-aged children have at least one chronic health condition that requires ongoing healthcare.
  • Every 4 seconds, an injury sends a child to the emergency department.
  • Having a skilled and compassionate healthcare team on your side can help you navigate the ups and downs of childhood.
