Behind the scenes in emergency medicine
A total of 24 specialists who are board certified in emergency medicine evaluate and treat approximately 60,000 patients each year with the assistance of 36 residents in emergency medicine.
Emergency services range from resuscitation and stabilization of the critically ill or injured patient utilizing advanced airway management techniques, to treating common fractures and infections including intubations, central line placement, chest tubes, complex wound repair, closed reduction of fractures and dislocations, lumbar punctures, thrombolytic administration, advanced stroke management and surgical drainage of soft tissue abscesses. These services are provided with the full support of advanced technology, such as rapid helical computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, angiography and dedicated emergency laboratory and radiology services 24 hours a day. Along with the busy pediatric emergency department, special programs within our unit include:

Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion
In November 2004, ground was broken on the centerpiece of UC Davis Medical Center’s ongoing construction schedule, the Surgical and Emergency Services Pavilion.
