Clinical Research Coordinator, Digital Health Equity (DHE)

José Florez is currently the lead Clinical Research Coordinator for our current Digital Health Equity project for the Center for Reducing Health Disparities. José's interest in community-based participatory research and desire to help underserved communities led him to join the Center. José is the son and grandson first and second-generation migrant and immigrant farmworkers from Mexico. His earliest memories and experiences motivated him to go to college.

José is a first-gen college student who earned five associate degrees at various community colleges in Social Science, Natural Science, Biology, Chemistry and Sociology, and eventually transferred to UC Davis. At Davis, he double majored in Global Disease Biology and Chicana/o Studies where his interdisciplinary passions intersected around science and health justice.

José volunteered with the Knights Landing One Health Center and engaged in Mesenchymal stem cell research at the UC Davis Institute for Regenerative Cures, where he completed his practicum under the mentorship of Dr. Fernando Fierro. José graduated in 2020 and worked on the ORALÉ COVID-19 project which sought to increase COVID-19 testing access among underserved communities.

In his personal time, José likes traveling to unfamiliar places, listening to music, watching films old and new, as well as cooking up some of his favorite dishes like tacos and flan.
