ADHD in the Workforce

Although ADHD can at times be a challenge in the workplace, there are many resources that can help to maximize your success. Below are several tips and resources to help with current or future employment.

  • Spend time organizing yourself at the beginning of each day. Consider:
    • Arriving early to allow organizational time.
    • Making a list of your tasks for the day.
    • Scheduling your day into blocks with specific tasks.
  • Write down important information from meetings or discussions immediately.
    • Consider recording your meetings (with others’ permission).
    • Take photos of notes on a board or slides as a visual reminder.
  • Minimize distractions to the best of your ability. This may include:
    • Closing your door.
    • Turning off your phone.
    • Moving to a quiet area if you don’t a private office.
    • Using headphones or white noise to drown out distracting noises.
  • Set aside time for exercise/outdoor breaks.
  • Feeling your attention drifting? Stand up and stretch!
  • Check your communication with others carefully.
    • Think before you speak or send an email.
    • Keep drafts of emails/letters for a short time and reread prior to sending them out.
