Burn recovery support group
The Burn Recovery Support Group is a monthly meeting where burn survivors and survivors of necrotizing fasciitis, families and significant others, discuss issues and raise questions related to their injury.
The meeting is facilitated by the UC Davis Medical Center burn outreach coordinator. She provides a safe atmosphere, conducive to the needs of all those who attend. As a Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery (SOAR)-designated facility, some of our peer support volunteers will serve as a source of hope and inspiration to those experiencing a burn injury. Questions are answered and anxiety related to the injuries are often alleviated by those attending.
Useful topics are discussed each month to aid in the participants understanding of the various stages of their injury, rehabilitation and recovery. Other burn team specialists are occasionally invited to talk on such areas as cosmetics, vocational rehabilitation and reconstruction options.
Who should attend the Burn Recovery Support Group?
Any person who has concerns about their burn or necrotizing fasciitis injury or who is concerned about a loved one's injury. Patients, families and significant others are urged to attend at least one meeting prior to, or immediately after, discharge from the hospital.
