Using nanotechnology, bits of sugars, amino acids and polymers can be combined into new molecules known as synthetic high-affinity ligands (SHALs). Researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and UC Davis Cancer Center are collabo-rating to create SHALs that will target cancer cells.
