Course Overview

This 4 week clerkship will give each 4th year medical student an opportunity to learn about various subspecialties within radiology, tailored toward the interest of each student.  Medical students are placed on 1 week blocks of the “core” aspects of radiology – body imaging, chest radiology, and interventional radiology.  Additionally, based upon each medical student's educational goals, he/she will be placed within one other section of radiology for 1 week.  These sections may include: musculoskeletal radiology, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, or pediatric radiology.  Medical students attend daily noon conferences that are tailored toward medical imaging for medical students. Students will also attend subspecialty conferences provided by each respective section.

Grades are determined by attendance, evaluations, and presentations.  Attendance is composed of presence and participation within the rotation and lectures.  Students are excused up to 3 days for residency interviews. If a student misses more than 3 days while on the rotation, he/she may receive an additional assignment or need to make up missed day(s).   Evaluations are based upon professionalism, communication, and clinical skills.  Each medical student will be responsible for preparing a total of 2 case presentations. These presentations will occur during an allotted time noted on the teaching conference schedule.

Dedicated Radiology Subsection Clerkships

4th year medical students with specific interests in radiology or imaging-associated specialties may take rotations that focus on one specific section of diagnostic radiology.  Students will work with the radiology team to learn diagnostic imaging interpretative skills and to understand treatment options through image guided minimally invasive procedures. Students will attend the same daily medical student specific conferences as their colleagues attending the diagnostic radiology clerkship (RDI 461).
