Philosophy of Care
Dr. Stephenson views his role as a pediatric surgeon as a distinct honor to engage with a family through what is often their most vulnerable time. He is glad to be a part of a team at UC Davis Children's Hospital that focuses on family-centered care throughout the continuum of surgical treatment.
Dr. Stephenson practices full-spectrum pediatric general & thoracic surgery, with an interest in minimally invasive approaches to surgical care. He is an active duty Air Force surgeon with skills in trauma care for children and young adults and has a special interest in providing care for under-served children in the California central valley and around the world.
Dr. Stephenson is actively involved in surgical education through the UC Davis surgical residency and through the PAACS organization which trains African surgeons at residency programs throughout Africa. Ongoing clinical research projects include improving colorectal care for children, trauma management, and building global health capacity.
