Clinical Interests
Dr. Phan's clinical interests includes the management of thoracic malignancies, airway disorders, and pleural diseases using minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Dr. Phan has advanced Interventional Pulmonology training in the following procedures: flexible and rigid bronchoscopy, robotic assisted bronchoscopy, ablative therapies including argon plasma coagulation, lasers, cryotherapy, photodynamic therapy, and electrocautery, brachytherapy, cryobiopsy, convex and radial endobronchial ultrasound, endobronchial stent placement (silicone, hybrid, and metallic), endobronchial valve placement, navigational bronchoscopy for the diagnosis of peripheral lung lesions, balloon bronchoplasty, large volume lung lavage, percutaneous tracheostomy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, medical pleuroscopy, pleurodesis, tunneled pleural catheters, pleural biopsy, lung and pleural ultrasound, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, and bronchothermoplasty.
Research/Academic Interests
Dr. Phan's academic focus is on clinical research to improve advanced bronchoscopic and pleural techniques and evaluating new therapies for the treatment of lung cancer and pleural disease.
As a clinician-educator, his focus is on the development of simulation based learning to enhance pulmonary procedural skills as well as course and curriculum development.
