Our cytopathology laboratory is involved in several research projects related to cytopathology. We are mainly interested in identify specific markers that could assist in the differentiation between reactive mesothelial cells from malignant mesotheliomas and/or adenocarcinomas in serous fluids. Our laboratory identified several markers that could serve this purpose such as CD44 standard, CD44v6, GLUT-1and hyaluronan.

We are currently studying the role of the pericellular matrix, hyaluronan, in tumor progression especially in body fluids. Our cytotechnicians, cytopathology fellow, and residents are all participating in several research projects that lead to presentation in national meetings and several publications.
