General Information

Any specimen sent to the laboratory for cytological study must be accompanied by an appropriate lab slip. The clinical history must be included. On those specimens requiring multiple tests, a separate specimen for cytology should be obtained, if possible. Each specimen on a patient requires a separate request form.

Specimens for cytological study should be delivered to the Specimen and Report Center (SARC), room 2008.

All Non-GYN or fresh specimens received in the Cytology Laboratory by 2 p.m. will be reported out by 4 p.m. the next working day unless special procedures are requested or required.

Slides may be reviewed with the cytology staff between 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the PATHOLOGY building, room 0106 by appointment with the pathologist or cytology fellow. Telephone requests for reports interrupt the orderly progress of the report to the patient's chart and should be kept to a minimum. However, if required, please contact the department supervisor at (916) 734-7531. To request a fine-needle aspiration procedure please contact the cytopathology fellow.
