Dr. John Bishop graduated from Yale University cum laude with a Bachelors of Arts in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry in 1973. He went on to study Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and received his Medical Degree in February, 1977. Following his formal education, Dr. Bishop completed an Internship in categorical pathology at Tufts-New England Medical Center Hospitals and then his Pathology Residency (AP-CP) at the Naval Regional Medical Center (NRMC) San Diego.
John Bishop began his professional career with the Navy, being stationed in both San Diego and Japan through the 1980s. From there he worked at several hospitals throughout the United States. He served as Associate Professor of Pathology, Creighton University School of Medicine throughout most of the 1990s. In 1999 he came to UC Davis Medical Center and stayed until the end of 2001. Following his time here at UC Davis Medical Center he worked in the private sector until joining the University of Cincinnati as an Associate Professor from August 2003-March 2007. Most recently, Dr. Bishop served as Medical Director for Bostwick Laboratories Inc., Gynecor® Division. He has now returned to UC Davis Medical Center and will serve as Health Sciences Clinical Professor and Director of Surgical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry.
He holds medical licenses in twenty (20) states and is certified in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology through the American Board of Pathology. He is also certified in Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics.
Dr. Bishop is a Fellow of both the College of American Pathologists and the International Academy of Cytology. He holds memberships with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Society of Cytopathology, United States - Canadian Academy of Pathology and Histochemical Society.
