Event: An evening with Luis Carlos Montalvàn

Synopsis: Luis Carlos Montalvàn, Retired Army Captain and Author of Until Tuesday, gave a lecture and book signing in an event sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, at the UC Davis MIND Institute. He returned from Iraq with traumatic brain injury, physical disabilities, and post-traumatic stress disorder. He spoke about the discrimination he has endured, awareness of “hidden disability,” and access guidelines for service animals. Until Tuesday is a story about a man and his dog, ability and disability, war and healing, . . . a journey of spiritual restoration.

2009 Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism

Synopsis: The local chapter of Autism Speaks holds its second annual Walk Now for Autism fundraising event. This year, over 7,000 people attended, raising over $200,000 for autism research, advocacy, family services, and awareness. The walk was held at Raley Field and included appearances by Amy Lewis, KFBK anchor, Kevin Johnson, Sacramento Mayor, Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, CA Assembly women Mariko Yamada and Alyson Huber, and Dr. Blythe Corbett and the SENSE Theatre kids, as well as lots of fun activities for children and their families.

Event: SENSE Theatre -- "Making SENSE"

Location: DMTC, Davis, CA

Synopsis: The brainchild of Dr. Blythe Corbett of the MIND Institute, the SENSE Theatre is a unique theatrical intervention research program designed to improve the social and emotional functioning of children with autism and related neurodevelopmental disorders. Recently coming off their first joint production of Disney's "The Jungle Book Kids," Blythe Corbett, Ph.D. sits down to discuss the program. Event: P.A.R. 4 Kids Sake Golf Tournament

Synopsis: Founded by Cindy and Eric Everson, parents of two children with autism, the P.A.R. (Providing Autism Research) 4 Kids Golf Tournament benefitting the MIND Institute and several bay area autism service providers, celebrates it's 7th year as one of the premiere annual fundraising golf tournaments in northern California.
