Our Goal

Researchers at the UC Davis MIND Institute are collaborating with the Hartwell Foundation, to reach thousands of families who are managing the challenges of caring for a child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. The goal of the Kids First Initiative is to collect information about each child to create better classifications for Autism Spectrum Disorder, which will help lead to better therapy and treatment.

Currently, we do not know enough about autism to be able to create a detailed classification that accurately reflects each behavior and personality. In order to create a classification system, we will need to categorize Autism Spectrum Disorder into specific groups and to do so, we will need your help.

Who can participate?

Parents of a child with:

  • A clinical diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); and
  • Who is between the ages of 12 months and 17 years; and
Is Proficient in the English Language

What does the study involve?

  • Families will be asked to enroll in the online database and complete questionnaires regarding demographic and behavioral information (will take approximately 10-30 minutes)
  • All participation is done from the participant's home
