Speaking Up Helps Patients Receive the Safest Care

UC Davis Medical Center participates in the Speak Up™ campaign, a national safety initiative by The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that serves as the nation’s oldest and largest health standards and accrediting body.

The goal of Speak Up is to help patients and their advocates become active in their care. Through messages in our patient handbooks and other patient education materials, UC Davis Medical Center encourages patients to speak up from the beginning of treatment.

The Speak Up campaign asks patients to:

    • Speak up if you have questions or concerns...
    • Pay attention to the care you get...
    • Educate yourself about your illness...
    • Ask advocates (such as family members and friends) to help...
    • Know about your new medicines...
    • Use a quality health care organization...
    • Participate in all decisions about your care...
