M.D. Program

Program description

The objective of the Student Mentoring Program of the UC Davis School of Medicine Student Support Services Office is to provide medical students with information, resources, and experiences so they can make informed decisions about their career path and residency match. Faculty mentors and staff can help you devise a strategy for turning your interests and skills into a meaningful career in medicine.

Career development is a four-year process of self-assessment, career exploration, career-decision making and implementation. To assist you in this process, we have excellent resources, including 20 faculty mentors, support staff, career seminars, student interest groups, timelines and links to on-line resources, including the AAMC Careers in Medicine site, which provides general career advising information for all medical students.

Planning your career and getting the residency position that you want is an active, dynamic process. The key to success is to start the self-assessment and career exploration processes early. Our ultimate goal is to provide you with guidance to help you make the best career decision possible.

Student mentoring is confidential and encouraged for all UC Davis medical students. Feel free to stop by our office in 2101A Education Building if you have any questions or want to meet with someone to discuss your career plans.
