Congratulations to Dr. Ching-Hsien Chen, Assistant Adjunct Professor, Division of Nephrology for receiving 2 awards from UCOP/California Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program.  

Title: Therapeutic Targeting to Inhibit Fibrosis Progression (Award ID: 28IR-0061)
Award amount: $925,286
Project Period: 07/01/2018 to 06/30/2021
Goal: The application seeks to identify potential smoke-responsive molecules and investigate their regulatory networks associated with fibroblast differentiation during progressive fibrosis.

Title: Tackling Stem-Like Cells in Tobacco Smoke-Mediated Cancer Malignancy (Award ID: 27KT-0004)
Award amount: $750,000
Project Period: 04/01/2018 to 03/31/2021
Goal: The central focus of this research is on how tobacco smoke regulates cancer stemness in driving tumor progression.

Collaborative Review Highlights Discoveries in the new Field of Onco-Nephrology

The review, Metabolic reprogramming in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a collaborative work between members of the Divisions of Nephrology, Robert Weiss, M.D., and Omran Abu Aboud, Ph.D., Hematology and Oncology, and the UC Davis Cancer Center, helps to shed light on kidney cancer and its role in the emerging field of onco-nephrology.
