Department of Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine is one of 23 departments at the UC Davis School of Medicine and part of the UC Davis Health System. As the largest clinical department, internal medicine includes 150 faculty, 375 support staff and 170 physicians in training. Volunteer clinical faculty number approximately 400. The department offers a broad spectrum of divisions and patient services, including:
Cardiovascular Medicine
Emergency Medicine and Clinical Toxicology
Endocrinology, Clinical Nutrition, and Vascular Medicine
Gastroenterology and Hepatology
General Medicine/Geriatrics/Bioethics
Hematology and Oncology
Infectious Diseases
Nephrology
Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
Rheumatology/Allergy/Clinical Immunology

The department also plays an integral role in developing the health system's multidisciplinary clinical centers. Many of our faculty contribute time and expertise to one or more of the centers -

including those focusing on cancer, heart disease, outreach and telehealth, transplantation, trauma, and women's health as well as the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute.

Physicians in the department reflect a wide range of specialties and have advanced medical training, extensive clinical and research experience, and technological expertise. Multidisciplinary teams from our divisions interact across the health system to provide comprehensive care and collaborate on cutting-edge research. Our physicians and staff are dedicated to the compassionate practice of medicine -- a continuum of care that extends from preventive medicine to acute care in the emergency room to palliative care throughout an illness.
