Cherry Hicks R.N., M.S., C.N.S. began her nursing career by earning a Diploma in Nursing from the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She received a BSN from the University of Illinois, Chicago and her MS in Nursing from Northern Illinois University.

She has spent 35+ years in the profession of nursing in the areas of pediatrics, IV therapy, med/surg nursing and critical care. She has worked in a variety of hospitals including Milwaukee Children’s Hospital and Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes Medical Center in Chicago. She spent approximately 10 years at the University of Illinois, Medical Center working nights as a staff nurse in the Coronary Care Unit. She has been an ACLS and BLS instructor since 1989.

After relocating to California from Illinois in 1996, she spent the last 12 years working for Mercy Healthcare Sacramento, beginning as a process redesign educator. Following that project, she became the first med/surg clinical nurse specialist at Mercy Hospital of Folsom, where she stayed for 11 years. She has strong interest in the areas of cardiac physiology, palliative care, pressure ulcer prevention, reduction of patient falls and restraints, and nursing education and staff development.. She also served as the MHF CalNOC site coordinator for 10 years contributing to the scientific knowledge base of nursing practice.
