Communication and Caring

When your child has been diagnosed with cancer, it affects the whole family, not just the child with the disease. Your child starts treatment almost immediately. Day-to-day routines change for everyone. Most families feel overwhelmed. How your family reacts to cancer may depend a lot on how you've faced hard times in the past. Some families find it easy to talk about cancer; other families find it very difficult. The members of your child's health-care team, including social workers and child life specialists, are available to help support you and your child throughout treatment.
