PK/PD Bioanalytical Core Facility
Understanding drug metabolism (DM), pharmacokinetics (PK), and pharmacodynamics (PD) is essential for the development of new therapeutics, which requires accurate and reliable quantification of drugs/metabolites in complex biological matrix. The PK/PD Bioanalytical Core Facility at UC Davis Medical Center (UCDMC) is equipped with a Waters Xevo TQS UPLC-MS/MS system and set up to provide state-of-the-art bioanalytical services to support the clinical and preclinical drug development programs.

Dr. Aiming Yu, Director, has extensive experience in the study of DM/PK/PD and bioanalysis. His research interests include DM/PK/PD, noncoding RNA epigenetics, pharmacogenetics, and cancer therapy.

Dr. Jimmy Wu, Technical Manager, Assistant Project Scientist, is specialized in HPLC and LC-MS assay development. He has worked closely with UCDMC GMP facility to develop and QC drug formulations for an ongoing clinical trial at UCDMC. He also developed an LC-MS bioanalytical method for this clinical trial. Prior to this clinical research, he successfully developed a drug screening method that can discover druggable targets and their corresponding lead compounds simultaneously in a short period. He also studied on small molecule-protein and protein–protein binding kinetics with Biacore 3000. Besides analytical chemistry, Dr. Wu’s research interests include cancer research, protein chemistry, molecular biology and microbiology.
