Department Highlights

Decision Medicine is a 2 week School of Medicine K-14 Outreach program.  This program introduces students to the field of medicine through personal mentoring opportunities and site visits with behind-the-scenes access to some of our regional hospitals, clinics and public health centers.  The program took place at the UCDMC Education Building and simulation center.

Dr. Kenneth Furukawa and Dr. Michelle Kim, from our department, were involved with the program on July 22, 2016.  They were able to guide the students through a few successful intubations and other common anesthesiology interventions.  The students did an excellent job and were excited to volunteer to practice.   I'm pretty sure there are a few doctors-in-waiting in the group.

Here are a few photos from the event.

On February 3, we held a one-day course, leveraging the simulation center at the Center for Virtual Care.  The primary objective of the course was to enable participants to recognize and manage emergencies in pediatric anesthesia.  The course was attended by two pediatric fellows at UC Davis and one from UC San Francisco.
