About the Conference

This year's theme: Preparing for Next Steps: Navigating the Educational Journey from Early Intervention to High School and Beyond

Experience the UC Davis MIND Institute’s Summer Institute on Neurodevelopmental Disabilities, Friday, July 19, 2024 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.! Join us for this enriching, in-person conference designed for professionals, students, UC Davis employees, parents, caregivers, family members and individuals with disabilities.

Conference Objectives

  • Gain insights into evidence-based and practical tools for supporting transitions for individuals with intellectual and developmental conditions.
  • Engage with a keynote presentation co-presented by a researcher and a person with lived experience, who have collaborated to develop effective transition strategies for students.
  • Panel discussion featuring individuals with developmental conditions and providers, sharing personal and professional perspectives on educational transitions.
  • Attend afternoon workshops focusing on diploma pathways, early intervention to education system transition, parent advocacy, and building partnerships.

    1. Participants will be able to define transition as it relates to educational settings. 
    2. Participants will identify 3 best practices that support meaningful transitions.  
    3. Participants will be able to identify the role of self-determination in transitions throughout the life course.

    • Workshop 3:  Navigating California's “New” Alternative Pathway to a High School Diploma for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities

    2:35 p.m. - 4 p.m.

    • Workshop 4:  A panel discussion: Preparing for Successful Adulthood as you Transition from High School
    • Workshop 5:  Promoting Self-Determination:  The Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction
    • Workshop 6:  Planning for the Future of Developmental Services in California

    During registration you will be asked to select one workshop from each timeslot. 

  • Professional Credit Hours

    Professional Credit Hours: 6.0 (CPA)

    This event is approved for 6 professional Credit Hours. The UC Davis MIND Institute is approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing professional education for psychologists. The UC Davis MIND Institute maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) recognizes CPA continuing education credits for license renewal for LCSWs and MFTs. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # 17663, for 6 contact hours.

    Continuing education credits may be available for an additional fee of $60.00.
