The Medical Microbiology and Immunology Department and UC Davis Center for Valley Fever have partnered with the Davis Joint Unified School District Career Technical Education (CTE) program to provide an internship for our local high school students.

Our program is designed to spark interest and empower the next generation of leaders in clinical diagnostics and medical research with emphasis in the patient care and medical technologies CTE tracks. The ten-week program is designed for high school learners of all technical levels and will introduce students to the microbiology of Valley Fever: its nature and epidemiology; the relevant types of clinical diagnostics performed; and the variety of daily operations. In addition, students will learn and train in basic lab safety management. Opportunities will be provided to learn about research investigators performed throughout the MMI department’s laboratory spaces.
