Cancer: Gynecological Interstitial Brachytherapy
Cancer is best dealt with directly. At UC Davis Cancer Center, our team of world-class physicians can treat certain gynecological cancers by administering targeted radiation right to the tumor itself.
This treatment, called interstitial brachytherapy, allows physicians to deliver high dose radiation directly to the tumor, destroying it with greater precision and without damaging surrounding healthy tissues.
UC Davis physicians use interstitial brachytherapy to treat certain gynecological, breast, sarcoma and prostate cancers. It offers a more targeted therapy for recurrent cancers or those requiring additional treatment.
For patients, this therapy can offer the hope of fewer visits, shorter treatment duration, less damage to healthy tissue and organs and, most importantly, better outcomes.
The gynecological interstitial brachytherapy program at UC Davis is the only one of its kind in inland Northern California. It’s one of many ways UC Davis – ranked among America’s best by the National Cancer Institute – is leading cancer care in our region and throughout the nation.
