Engel
joins Department of Anesthesiology
Thomas Engel joined
the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine on Oct.
1, as an assistant professor, working in general anesthesiology.
Engel earned his medical degree in 1987 from Loma Linda University
in Loma Linda, Calif., where he also completed a pediatric
internship and anesthesiology residency. He received his certification
from the American Board of Anesthesiology in1992.
Engel has clinical
interests in medical informatics, medical education and airway
management. His research interests include medicine and computer
technology (including human-computer interface design), mathematical
models of natural processes, and ethics and computer technology.
Engel will assume an active role in the continued development
of medical student and resident education programs as director
of the departments residency program.
Engel is a member
of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, California Society
of Anesthesiologists, Internal Anesthesia Research Society,
American Medical Association, Association for Computing Machinery,
and IEEE Computer Society. Because of his expertise in computer
technology, computer networking, and the Internet, he has
presented computer workshops at several American Society of
Anesthesiologists annual meetings.
