Bourgeois
joins Department of Psychiatry
James Alan Bourgeois
joined the Department of Psychiatry as an associate professor
on Oct. 1. He will also serve as associate director of the
consultation-liaison service.
Bourgeois received
his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University
of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. in 1989 and was board-certified
by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1995.
Bourgeois is a former lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Air
Force Medical Corps who served as military consultant to the
surgeon general for psychiatry.
He has clinical
interests in consultation/liaison psychiatry, psychotherapy,
personality disorders, psychopharmacology, and medical/psychiatric
education and administration. His research interests involve
clinical case reports, psychopharmacology (including medication
side effects), and psychiatric co-morbidity in personality
disorders and substance abuse. Bourgeois is a reviewer for
the Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences
and the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology.
