“It’s Never Too Late to Manage Heart Disease,” part of the Coming of Age lecture series sponsored by the UC Davis Center for Healthy Aging, UC Davis Cancer Center auditorium, 4501 X St., Sacramento. The solutions for preventing further problems with heart disease lie in nutrition, exercise and stress management. Prevention is the key to success. The speaker is C. Wednesday, June 6, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m
“More Joy in Life,”
a confidential discussion group sponsored by the Academic and Staff Assistance Program, Ticon III, conference room 2B. Discussion is intended to help participants learn new coping strategies, identify roadblocks to joy, and handle depression. Sessions are facilitated by Marjorie Trogdon, licensed clinical social worker, and Wendy Rodriguez, marriage and family counselor trainee. For more information, call (916) 734-2727.

Thursday, June 7
Golf Fore Kids, a tournament to benefit the UC Davis CAARE Diagnostic and Treatment Center, Twelve Bridges Golf Course, Lincoln. The CAARE Center serves more than 3,000 children a year who are suspected victims of sexual or physical abuse. Spots for individual golfers are still available for a registration fee of $160. The fee covers 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, buffet dinner, a shirt, gift certificates, prizes and a bag of miscellaneous golf items. UC Davis/UC Davis Health System Job Fair 2001, Recreation Hall, corner of La Rue and Orchard Road on the Davis campus. The event is open to the general public and will feature workshops on resume and cover letter writing, interview techniques and the UC application process. Admission and parking are free. “Coping With a Medical Crisis,” part of the Coming of Age lecture series sponsored by the UC Davis Center for Healthy Aging, Sierra Health Foundation, 1321 Garden Highway, Sacramento. What are some of the more effective ways to respond to and communicate with close friends and relatives during a medical crisis? Learn how adaptive individuals and families respond when a family member experiences an unanticipated illness or injury. The speaker is Mark A. “Future Revolutions in Cancer: From Bench to Bedside,”
part of the Coming of Age lecture series sponsored by the UC Davis Center for Healthy Aging, UC Davis Cancer Center auditorium, 4501 X St., Sacramento. It’s an exciting time in cancer research. This presentation will provide a glimpse into the future of cancer treatment, including designer chemotherapy based on a patient’s genetic profile, and new biomedical devices that may help detect cancer at its earliest stages without the need for a biopsy.
