Future Revolutions in Cancer:
From Bench to Bedside,
part of the Coming of Age lecture series sponsored by the
UC Davis Center for Healthy Aging, UC Davis Cancer Center
auditorium, 4501 X St., Sacramento. Its an exciting
time in cancer research. This presentation will provide a
glimpse into the future of cancer treatment, including designer
chemotherapy based on a patients genetic profile, and
new biomedical devices that may help detect cancer at its
earliest stages without the need for a biopsy. The speaker
is Ralph deVere White, chair and professor of urology and
director of the UC Davis Cancer Center. For more information,

Discussion is intended to help participants learn new coping
strategies, identify roadblocks to joy, and handle depression.

social worker, and Wendy Rodriguez, marriage and family counselor

EMDR,
part of the Learn at Lunch lecture series sponsored by the
Academic and Staff Assistance Program, La Bou restaurant,
2248 Stockton Blvd. EMDR is an acronym for eye
movement desensitization and reprocessing,
an innovative clinical treatment that has helped survivors
of traumatic incidents, such as sexual abuse, domestic violence,
combat or crimes. ASAPs Jim Burnham and Marjorie Trogdon,
licensed clinical social workers, will describe how EMDR allows
the brain to heal
psychological wounds in ways similar to
how the rest of the body heals physical wounds. The technique
has proven effective in relieving post-traumatic stress symptoms
and is being applied to other problems. For more information,

The chief of cardiology at UCLA, Linda Demer will be at UC
Davis Medical Center as the Department of Internal Medicines
Pfizer Visiting Professor. She will be the departments
featured speaker during an afternoon of discussion on
vascular calcification and its relationship to bone metabolism
and osteoporosis on Wednesday, June 27,

Outing at Sacramento
RiverCats baseball game, sponsored by the
UC Davis School of Medicine Alumni Association. Features an
all-you-can-eat buffet dinner served from 6-7:30 p.m. The
baseball game between the RiverCats and the Memphis Redbirds
starts at 7:05 p.m. The event will be held at the home of
the RiverCats, Raley Field in West Sacramento. The cost for
the event is $16 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under.
Seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve
