Liu
joins Department of Anesthesiology
Hong Liu recently
joined the UC Davis faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology,
specializing in general anesthesiology.
Liu's clinical
interests include general and ambulatory anesthesiology. His
research centers on intracellular Na, Ca, pH, ATP, Pcr changes
during ischemia/hypoxia of adult hearts and use of fluorescence
imaging systems to study intracellular Na, Ca and pH in isolated
cardiac myocytes and other cell lines. He also continues research
into anesthetic pre-conditioning. The application of this
work will help in designing better age-related interventions
to prevent ischemic/reperfusion injury.
As a postgraduate
researcher at UC Davis in the Department of Physiology, Liu
received a two-year American Heart Association Affiliate Postdoctoral
Research Fellowship Award and a National Institutes of Health
Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. He completed his anesthesiology
residency at UC Davis Medical Center, where he received the
2000 Outstanding Resident Research Award.
