Lavenex joins Department of Psychiatry

Pierre Lavenex has joined the Department of Psychiatry as an assistant professor.

Lavenex was educated in Switzerland, where he studied biology, physiology, biochemistry and zoology, earning earned his doctorate from the University of Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1995. Lavenex has a research background in psychology, neuroanatomy and behavioral neuroscience. He was a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley, through the Swiss National Science Foundation, and the UC Davis Center for Neuroscience, through the Swiss Foundation for Grants in Medicine and Biology.

Lavenex, who speaks English, French, German and Spanish, focuses his research on the neuroanatomical and behavioral studies of the medial temporal lobe and memory in vertebrates and nonhuman primates in particular. He a reviewer for a number of professional publications, including Behavioral Neuroscience, Brain Research, the Journal of Comparative Psychology, Neuroscience, and Trends in Neuroscience. He is also a member of the Animal Behavior Society and the Society for Neuroscience.
